How to read the board

Apprentice and warrior sit at the top because patrols give you something to do. Leader sits at the bottom for a first session because the rank needs other players' agreement. Medicine cat rises after you can find herbs.

S tier

first-sessionApprenticeTraining, a mentor, and patrols give you a reason to be in almost any scene. The roles guide puts apprenticeship at about four to six moons of play, ended by an assessment.

Player decision Best first rank if you want to be taught instead of leading.

first-sessionWarriorHunting, border patrols, and mentoring are the everyday work of the Clan. You can join a scene without owning the plot.

Player decision Best first rank if you already know where the camp is.

A tier

first-sessionMedicine cat apprenticeLearns herbs beside the medicine cat. You still need the herb routes, but you are not expected to run the Clan.

Player decision Choose this when an older medicine cat is actually playing.

first-sessionKitUnder six moons. Camp scenes, nursery, and being taught. Poor cover for interrupting a patrol.

Player decision Use it for quiet scenes, not for the leader's rock.

first-sessionMedicine catHealing and herbs. Strong once Starpedia pages are unlocked. Weak on a first day if you cannot find the plants.

Player decision Wait until you have logged several herbs, unless a scene specifically needs a healer.

B tier

first-sessionQueenNursery and kits. Clear job, fewer border fights.

Player decision A calm camp rank when a nursery scene is already happening.

first-sessionElderCounsel and stories. Apprentices in the roles guide also clear ticks and moss as chores around elders.

Player decision Play this when you want to talk more than you patrol.

first-sessionSenior warriorA warrior played as long-serving. The name implies history you have not played yet.

Player decision Fine after you know the server. Odd as a brand-new account's first name.

C tier

first-sessionDaylight warriorThe roles guide includes this rank and does not spell out a strict duty list. Servers fill that in.

Player decision Ask what the server means before you introduce yourself as one.

first-sessionMediatorHandles disputes. The rank only works if both sides accept you.

Player decision Skip until players already know you.

first-sessionDeputySets patrols and stands in for the leader. Needs an active Clan that agrees.

Player decision Do not take this on the first day in a public server.

D tier

first-sessionLeaderCeremonies, disputes, and the public voice of the Clan. The leader's rock is a frequent new-player mistake.

Player decision Watch a ceremony before you try to run one.
